It's been ages!

I keep meaning to come on and post, but I tend to get distracted and never get around to it. This last week has been absolutely cracking. The last two weeks actually. It seems work has started flowing in faster, and I actually have a schedule to keep for the next 3 months. I wish I had more interesting things to talk about. Occasionally things have been popping into my head that I would like to  write down, but they are unimportant. Probably a running list at the moment would be:
  • How much people whinge on the Hashi group on Facebook. I mean, these guys have a thyroid condition. Yes you get tired, put on some weight and maintain an air of irritability. But it's not like you're dying. It's not cancer. You're not completely immobilised. There are women that quit work because they're too tired. My mum is probably as bad as it gets, and she still works full time. I think they make themselves worse than they have to be with the 'poor me' attitude. This group is nothing but 'FML' updates. It drives me up the wall. Some of the women are really great. The rest, not so much.

  • How addicted to the "New Girl" series, even though it's not really that good. Zooey Deschanel plays the same, naive, whimsical, adorable (or 'adorkable' as she's now known) manic-pixie-dream-girl character, she is in every movie. I can't believe they've made a show around it. But you kind of get into it, and look past it and I'm enjoying how she works with the other characters - of course all strange and wonderful in their own way.

  • Still on the above topic, it annoys me slightly that MPDG character is always so beautiful in movies and shows. These girls exist - I have met one. But she looks nothing like Zooey Deschanel, or Natalie Portman (Garden State) or Kirsten Dunst (Elizabethtown). And guys won't go near her. Yet reading forum comments, YouTube comments there seems to be this collective hope from men that these women would come into their lives, and if they did it would be so much easier to talk to them, get to know them and date them. I want to shake the shit out of them and tell them that they are out there - just look past the freaking stereotype US TV and Cinema portrays. They don't look like models. Same for the whole girls loving nerds at the moment. No honey, just because he can quote Big Bang Theory and wears a mass produced Hot Topic t-shirt with Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock on the front, does NOT make him a nerd.

  • Someone on my Facebook wall has decided to auction off their stuff to buy new things for their house. They invited all of their FB friends and are asking everyone to help a friend out, and action through an event. I don't know why, but I find this really strange. But I guess it's no different to eBay. It might of been the way they worded the invitation. It kind of reminds me of the post on STFUparents where a women was calling on donations for her new baby.

  • I wonder what everyone will do with all the pictures they take and put straight online. If the phone dies, it will all disappear. I find it really strange they treat FB like a photo album. What happens in 5 years when it's not around? All those memories
I started tracing my family history over the holidays. I started doing my mum's side, because she knew so little. Within the week I discovered so much her, and probably the rest of her family never knew. The great grandmother than claimed to be an orphan was not, but the daughter of a drunk who was the daughter of another drunk. "Black George" who was known by the family as her father was discovered to be Joseph, and her younger sister was born out of wedlock to another after a divorce. I never knew it would be so addictive, and I have been slowly filtering information back to my mum who is rediscovering her family history.
